It Takes an 'Ohana

Hawaii's Foster Care Resource

My Home, Our Home: Cultural Considerations For Resource Families

Dr. Kimo Alameda lead an open and candid discussion of foster parenting and the cultural considerations for resource families at the 2009 annual foster care conference. Allene Uesugi, foster parent in Wai`anae for almost 20 years, was in the audience with her teen foster youth. “We were at the edge of our seats,” she said. ” Dr. Kimo generated such positive energy. Your whole soul wanted to hear what he had to say…when we came in we were laughing and when we left, we were still laughing. We are happy to report that the conference can now be viewed on-line. This year’s conference was brought to you by Family Programs Hawai`i and the Department of Human Services in collaboration with Hui Ho`omalu and It Takes An `Ohana. A big mahalo to Family Programs Hawai`i, the Department of Human Services and Hui Ho`omalu for this conference.
